DESCRIPTION:

Bacau Philharmonic and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to 10 active participants, the master class guarantees each participant 90 minutes of full orchestra (75 members) podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 2 hours of conducting practicum with piano duo, and extensive score study.

LOCATION:

Located 300 km northeast of Bucharest, Bacau is the regional capital of Moldavia, Romania, and an important city located in the beautiful Carpathian Mountain foothills. Known for its vibrant arts culture, Bacau is home to one of the best orchestras in Romania. The city is also an international air transportation hub, served by Blue Air.

Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 4 in F Minor
Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto
Tchaikovsky, Evgeny Onegin, Orchestral Excerpts

Participants have the opportunity to rehearse any part of the program. Maestro Goia will make final assignments for the performance.

SCHEDULE:

2 July -- Arrival in Bacau, Romania
3 - 5 July -- 6 Piano Sessions and Score Study
6 - 8 July -- 3 Orchestra Sessions
9 July -- Dress Rehearsal and Concert

COST:

Active Participant Tuition and Application Fee -- $1395.00 USD
Passive Participant Tuition -- 100 Euro, due upon arrival.


A deposit of $300.00 USD is due by 31 May, 2012. Deposits will be refunded only if the withdrawing participant's place is filled by another participant.

LODGING:

Accommodations will be the responsibility of the participant. Upon acceptance, the participant will be notified of housing options. Estimated cost of a single occupancy hotel room is 50 Euro per night.

ELIGIBILITY:

This master class is open to all conductors. There is no upper age limit. Applicants of varying levels of training and experience will be considered. A maximum of 10 applicants will be selected to participate. 

APPLICATION PROCESS:

1.  Complete application. Applications will be accepted until 20 May, 2012

2.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 27 May, 2012

3.  Deposit of $300.00 USD must be paid by 31 May, 2012

4.  Final payment must be made by 10 June, 2012
