DESCRIPTION: Bacau Philharmonic and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to 10 active participants, the master class guarantees each participant 90 minutes of full orchestra (75 members) podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 2 hours of conducting practicum with pianists, and extensive score study. LOCATION: Located 300 km northeast of Bucharest, Bacau is the regional capital of Moldavia, Romania, and an important city located in the beautiful Carpathian Mountain foothills. Known for its vibrant arts culture, Bacau is home to one of the best orchestras in Romania. The city is also an international air transportation hub, served by Blue Air. REPERTOIRE: Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 13 "Winter Daydreams" Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto No. 1 in Bb Minor, Op. 23 Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker, Excerpts, to include March, Dance of the Mirlitons, Trepak, Waltz of the Flowers, and Pas de deux Participants have the opportunity to rehearse any part of the program. Maestro Goia will make final assignments for the performance. SCHEDULE: 28 June -- Arrival in Bacau, Romania 29 June - 1 July -- 5 Piano Sessions and Score Study 1 - 3 July -- 3 Orchestra Sessions 4 July -- Dress Rehearsal and Evening Concert 5 July -- Departure from Bacau COST: Active Participant Tuition and Application Fee -- $1395.00 USD Passive Participant Tuition -- 100 Euro, due upon arrival. A deposit of $300.00 USD is due by 17 May, 2013. Deposits will be refunded only if the withdrawing participant's place is filled by another participant.
