DESCRIPTION: Brasov Philharmonic and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to only a small number of active participants (8-12), the master class guarantees each participant 80 minutes of full orchestra podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 2 hours of conducting practicum with piano duo, and extensive score study. The program includes Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919 version), Apollon musagetes, and Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor. The course provides a great opportunity to not only work with a world-class orchestra and teacher, but also to produce professional-quality videos, in rehearsal and concert. The program will be able to accommodate aspiring and practicing conductors at all stages of experience. LOCATION: The medieval city of Brasov is a major cultural center of Transylvania. Situated 166 km north of Bucharest, the city is the seventh most populous city in Romania, a central transportation hub, and a popular tourist destination in Europe. ICM will arrange transport free of charge, from Henri Coanda Otopeni Airport (OTP) in Bucharest to Brasov. Maestro Goia will make final assignments for the performance. SCHEDULE: 2 July -- Arrival in Brasov, Romania 3 - 5 July -- Piano Sessions and Score Study: daily 2 x 3-hr sessions with piano duo; additional score study and optional technique sessions with Huang and Goia 6 - 8 July -- Orchestra Sessions: minimum 3 x 4-hr sessions with full orchestra; additional sight-seeing excursions possible to nearby Poiana Brasov and Bran (Dracula's) Castle 9 July -- Dress Rehearsal and Concert: All participants will receive video and audio recordings (raw or edited) from front and back, as well as a large publicity poster. 10 July -- Departure. COST: The cost includes all tuition and professional recording fees. Accommodation, meals, and travel are arranged separately. ICM will arrange economical transport arrangements between Bucharest airports and Brasov. ROOM AND BOARD: Single occupancy lodging and a generous breakfast are provided by ICM at the historic Hotel Coroana, in the middle of the vibrant pedestrian zone, and within minutes of walking distance to the rehearsal and performance venues. ELIGIBILITY: This master class is open to all conductors. There is no upper age limit. Applicants of varying levels of training and experience will be considered.
