DESCRIPTION: Brasov Philharmonic and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to 10-12 active participants, the master class guarantees each participant 80 minutes of full orchestra podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 2 hours of conducting practicum with piano duo, and extensive score study. The master class provides a unique opportunity to study and conduct Brahms greatest works. The course provides a great opportunity to not only work with a world-class orchestra and teacher, but also to produce professional-quality videos, in rehearsal and concert. The program will be able to accommodate aspiring and practicing conductors at all stages of experience. LOCATION: The medieval city of Brasov is a major cultural center of Transylvania. Situated 166 km north of Bucharest, the city is the seventh most populous city in Romania, a central transportation hub, and a popular tourist destination in Europe. REPERTOIRE: Mozart, Serenade in G Major, K. 525, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" Schumann, Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54 Brahms Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68 Participants have the opportunity to rehearse any part of the program. Maestro Goia will make final assignments for the performance. SCHEDULE: 30 June -- Arrival in Brasov, Romania; transports arranged from Bucharest Airport (OTP) 1 - 3 July -- Piano Sessions and Score Study: daily 2 x 3-hr sessions with piano duo; additional score study and optional technique sessions with Huang and Goia 4 - 6 July -- Orchestra Sessions: minimum 3 x 4-hr sessions with full orchestra; additional sight-seeing excursions possible to nearby Poiana Brasov and Bran (Dracula's) Castle 7 July -- Dress Rehearsal and Concert: All participants will receive video and audio recordings (raw or edited) from front and back, as well as a large publicity poster. 8 July -- Departure. COST: The cost includes all tuition and professional recording fees, and accommodations and half-board. Alternate accommodation, lunch and dinner meals, and excursions are arranged separately. ICM will provide transport arrangements between Bucharest Otopeni "Henri Coanda" airport (OTP) and Brasov. ICM can offer packages for participants, between 30-50 Euro/day. ELIGIBILITY: This master class is open to all conductors. There is no upper age limit.
