DESCRIPTION: Targu Mures Philharmonic and Conducting Teacher Dumitru Goia offer an intensive week-long course in orchestral conducting. Limited to 10 active participants, the master class guarantees each participant 90 minutes of full orchestra (62 members) podium exposure, including public performance, in addition to 2 hours of conducting practicum with pianists, and extensive score study. LOCATION: The medieval city of Targu Mures is situated in north-central Romania, one hundred kilometers east of the Transylvanian capital, Cluj-Napoca. Known for its rich history and diverse populations of Hungarians and Romanians, the city displays its cultural heritage in its Habsburg-style architecture and thriving artistic life, including the home of the Targu Mures Philharmonic, the Palace of Culture. Targu Mures' airport is 14 km from city center, and is served by direct flights with Wizzair, TAROM, and Ryanair. REPERTOIRE: Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 Weber, Konzertstück in F minor for piano and orchestra Grieg, music from Peer Gynt Participants have the opportunity to rehearse any part of the program. Maestro Goia will make final assignments for the performance. SCHEDULE: 5 July -- Arrival in Targu Mures, Romania 6 July to 8 July -- Piano Sessions and Score Study 9 July to 11 July -- Daily Orchestra Sessions 12 July -- Dress Rehearsal and Evening Concert 13 July -- Departure from Targu Mures COST: Active Participant Tuition and Application Fee -- $1750.00 USD Passive Participant Tuition -- 100 Euro, due upon arrival. A deposit of $300.00 USD is due by 16 May, 2014. Deposits will be refunded only if the withdrawing participant's place is filled by another participant.
